Abstract

Pohon Berdaun Kain is a piece of oral literature from Kutai Barat that depicts the struggle of a mother bird, the punai, searching for a place to bury her child. This study aims to describe the moral values embedded in the story, which encompass individual, social, and religious morals. Data collection was conducted using a reading and note-taking technique. The findings indicate that the moral values in Pohon Berdaun Kain can be integrated into the lives of the Kutai Barat community. Individual values identified include openness, honesty, responsibility, and gratitude. Social values encompass empathy and respect for differences. In terms of religious aspects, the story teaches reliance on God, positive thinking, sincerity, gratitude, and hope. These moral values are not only essential for passing on to future generations but also serve as social glue that strengthens unity within the community. Furthermore, the relevance of these values highlights their importance for integration into the educational curriculum in West Kutai, aiming to foster positive character development among the youth.
