Abstract

The church does not only function as a place of worship but also as a center for character and intellectual development of its congregation, especially for the younger generation. The Naposo community at HKBP Garu VIII represents the future generation of the church who need guidance not only in spiritual aspects but also in literacy and numeracy skills. However, initial observations indicate that the reading interest and literacy skills of Naposo members are still relatively low, and their numeracy abilities in practical applications such as managing church activities and financial planning are limited. This Community Service Program aims to improve faith understanding and strengthen the literacy and numeracy skills of Naposo members at HKBP Garu VIII. The activity involved members of the Naposo community as the main participants. The implementation method used participatory and educational approaches through several activities, including counseling sessions, literacy training, numeracy simulations in preparing church activity budgets, and group discussions. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants’ active participation in understanding the Word of God, improvement in reading and critical analysis skills, and better understanding of preparing structured activity budgets. The evaluation of the program was conducted through observation of participant participation, reflective discussions, and assessment of literacy and numeracy exercises. This activity demonstrates that the integration of faith development with literacy and numeracy strengthening can be an effective approach in shaping Naposo members who are faithful, critical, and capable of logical thinking in facing various life challenges.
